Honor The Yellow Star
“My brothers “medal” becomes the envy of his friends soon other young boys begin wearing decorative yellow stars, pretending to be honored and not humiliated by the star. They, with my brother in the lead, see it as a mark of distinction.”- SOMORJA,MARCH 28 1944 , pg.30-31, I Have Lived A Thousand Years
This passage really spoke out to me because Elli’s brother didn't think of it as a bad thing for wearing the star of David. He is showing that he is proud of being a Jew.But then again why should we be humiliated of what we are? we are all different and that's okay. People don’t get humiliated when they have the cross on their necklace or like sometimes some people have a rosary around their neck and other people don’t judge or make fun of them. I might of done what bubi is doing... but who knows maybe I’m just saying that now because I’m not there in that situation but I would try.I don’t think I would be able to just sit there and do nothing.I also think that Elli’s brother is that hope everyone is waiting for because right now they need that hope really badly. Though I do wish her brother was more in the book and a bigger character because you could see more of a hopefulness theme in the book.
When I think of this passage I think of hope. Like I said before Jews need hope and a lot of it but that's good because they can fight and do something about it.I can relate to this with the Hunger Games because Bubi is like Katniss because she was that hope that everybody needed to move on and do something about it. This also reminds me of the rebels in the Holocaust because they’re the ones who had hope and wanted to move on. Also because they had hope and never gave up they did something about it. Would you if you were in that situation?
Wow this was awesome! I'm not entirely sure if I would rebel or be super positive like Bubi because I would be pretty mad but I would not be ashamed to wear that star if I were Jewish and I would try to look on the bright side. I also would not sit there and do nothing because nobody would get anywhere if that happened, so yes in a way I would rebel.
ReplyDeleteThank you for thinking it's awesome and exactly I don't think I would be able to just sit with my mouth shut and do nothing.
